Cross-border Packet vs. Commercial Line: How to Choose Without Pitfalls
Cross-border packets (surface / registered) and commercial lines are often compared, but essentially it is a trade-off between cheap and slow and pricey and fast - not which is better.
Packets fit: low AOV, non-urgent orders
For low-AOV orders where users are not time-sensitive, packets push logistics cost to the floor and protect margin.
Lines fit: high AOV, rating-sensitive orders
For high-AOV orders where platform or DTC ratings matter, lines offer stable lead time and full tracking, cutting after-sales and bad reviews - better overall.
Do not just look at the first-weight rate
Lines usually charge by actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is greater. Bulky-light goods (light but large in volume) are not necessarily pricier on a line. Before shipping, have the warehouse calculate the volumetric weight - many misjudgments disappear.
